At the end of the round-robin league, whereby all teams will play each other on a home and away basis, the top four teams on the points table will qualify for the IPL playoffs. The teams ranked one and two will feature in the first Qualifier while the teams ranked third and fourth will play in the Eliminator.

The winner of the first Qualifier which will be played on May 7, will make it to the final. The Eliminator will be played on May 8 and the losing team will be knocked out. However, the winning team will then have a chance to play the loser from the Qualifier 1, in what will be the second Qualifier. The second Qualifier will be played on May 10. The winner of this match will determine the second team in the final and that will be held on May 12.

The venues for the Qualifiers and Eliminator were announced on 22nd April. The Qualifier 1 will be played in Chennai on May 7, the Eliminator and Qualifier 2 will be played in Visakhapatnam on May 8 and May 10 respectively and the IPL final will be played in Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
